Small Group SE™ / EQUUSOMA® Consults
Sarah currently offers online small group case consultation for credit hours for students at the Beginning level of SE™ training and for students at Level 1 and Level 2 of the EQUUSOMA® training.
Group consultations feature questions and cases submitted by students and will reflect equines as clients, humans as clients, or both in various scopes of practice. Interdisciplinary learning is a core part of the program. If you do not have questions or a case to present, we encourage you to consider how the discussions in the consultation apply to your scope of practice, your client base, or how you might apply the information in new ways that you might not have considered before (curiosity and beginner’s mind, principles outlined in Level 1 Theory Module 1). Group consultations will not be a fit for everyone; if you prefer to focus your consultation time on your own specific scope of practice and client base, you are welcome to sign up for 1:1 consultations instead for a more personalized focus. We encourage you to register for consultations based on your growing edges, and to spread these out throughout your program(s) in ways that support your unique learning needs.
The maximum number of students that can participate in group consultations for credit is eight (8). Three (3) hours of group consultation count for one (1) credit hour. Small group consultations are booked in time slots of 3 hours and 15 minutes, to allow for a break partway along.
Group consultations offered for credit for SE™ students are not recorded to protect confidentiality, in keeping with SEI’s policy.
Please note: Not every student attending the small group consultation will have a chance to present a case or ask questions during the 3 hours. We will do our best to accommodate requests, but we make no guarantees as to how many students will have a chance to go during any given small group consultation.

Parameters and policies:
EQUUSOMA®: Of the 12 total credits of case consultations required in the 2 year program, the maximum number that can be completed in a group format is 4 (in other words, a total of 2 credits per level can be completed in the group format; the remainder must be completed in the individual format to allow a chance for all students to present their own cases).
Somatic Experiencing®: Of the 18 total credits of case consultations required in the 3 year program, the maximum number that can be completed in a group format is 12 (i.e., a minimum of 4 case consultations must be completed in the individual format to allow a chance for all students to present their own cases). For additional policies about credit hours in the SE™training program, click here.
Rates: Sarah’s standard rate for 3 hours of small group consultation plus a 15 minute break is $125 CAD total (approximately $90 USD, pending fluctuations in the currency exchange rate), plus tax for Canadian residents. Due to the reduced rate offered for small group case consultations (approx. $42 CAD/hr or $30 USD/hr), no sliding scale rate applies. Students who have received a scholarship via SEI or the EQUUSOMA® training receive a rate of $100 CAD for 3 hours of small group consultation (approximately $75 USD, pending the exchange rate), plus tax for Canadian residents.
Student Cancellations:
- Due to the complexity of coordinating group events, there are no refunds and transferring of your registration fee to another offering is not possible since a spot has been held for you and spaces are limited. To preserve confidentiality, any recording that might be made will not be distributed even if someone misses a small group case consultation due to extenuating circumstances.
- You are welcome to transfer your spot to someone else who meets the eligibility for the group consultation. It will be your responsibility to coordinate the transfer and to collect reimbursement from your replacement. If you are transferring your spot, please email Jennifer at [email protected] at least 48 hours in advance to inform us about who you are transferring the spot to and their contact information, so that they can be sent an email with the consultation information and Zoom link with enough advance notice.
Other Cancellations: If the date of the small group consultation needs to be changed due to changes in Sarah’s schedule, extenuating circumstances, or other variables beyond our control (such as a power/internet outage or an unforeseen emergency), we will reschedule the group consultation to a different date and transfer your registration automatically. If the new date does not work with your schedule, please email [email protected] at least 5 days before the new date to either transfer your payment to a different small group consultation offered by Sarah or receive a refund. We are unable to process requests that occur past that timeframe.
Attendance: Small group consultations are 3 hours plus a 15 minute break partway along so participants obtain the full 3 hours of consultation time. Group consultations that start on the hour will end quarter past the hour, and attendance at the entire group consultation is required to obtain the full credit. Arriving late and/or leaving early will result in the student needing to make up the time in a 1:1 consultation format in order to obtain the full credit (rounded to the closest 15-minute increment). Students need to join from a device that has functioning video with the video unmuted so we can confirm attendance.
