EQUUSOMA® Consults
If you are an EQUUSOMA® student or team member needing to complete consultation hours, read on!
Sarah is approved to provide credited individual case consultations and individual assignment consultations to students at all levels of the EQUUSOMA® training. As founder and a faculty member, she also provides credited consultations for the purposes of meeting the requirements of the EQUUSOMA® Approved Assistant and Provider Track Program.
Case or assignment consultations generally last an hour; in some cases, consults can last for 75 min, 90 min, or 2 hours, pending availability and pro-rated to the length of the consult.
For the individual case consultations to count towards credit hours in the EQUUSOMA® training program (and in the SE™ training program, if you are involved in both), the consultations may focus on the topics and integration subjects outlined on the main Consulting page, with the following intentions and parameters in mind:
- The application of EQUUSOMA® and SE™ within your scope of practice, with your client base
- EQUUSOMA® and SE™ concepts and general questions about the practical application of both methods
- Understanding your own counter-transference as a professional via an EQUUSOMA® and SE™ lens
- Ethical considerations and dilemmas via an EQUUSOMA® and SE™ lens
Assignment consultations may only take place after completing the required number of individual case consultations, and will focus on the integration of EQUUSOMA® / SE™ in either a group program curriculum outline (such as a workshop or clinic), or in a case conceptualization and treatment plan for a human, equine, or dyad as a client.
If you are a team member obtaining consultations for the purposes of meeting the requirements in the Approved Assistant and Provider Track Program, the above areas of focus for the consultations still apply, related to your own clients and also to reviewing the consultations you have provided to EQUUSOMA® students for their own log hours.
For more information about EQUUSOMA® credit hours, consultations, and the assignment, please review the EQUUSOMA® Policies Handbook – Student and Practitioner Edition, available in the footer of the EQUUSOMA® website and in the Key Documents section of the student eLearning portal.
Note:
- Sarah is also approved to provide personal sessions to students at all levels of EQUUSOMA® training.
- Personal sessions are not psychotherapy and are offered for educational purposes to support student learning and integration.
- Sarah does not offer personal sessions to students in the EQUUSOMA® training that she is also in a direct instruction role with.
- EQUUSOMA® students may book personal sessions (provided there is no conflict of interest) and/or consultations with Sarah as needed, provided they have not yet been granted their ESP designation. After obtaining the ESP designation, Sarah is able to continue to provide clinical consultations, but may no longer be able to provide personal sessions if she is not licensed to provide psychotherapy in the person’s jurisdiction.
- Counter-transference towards clients can either be explored in a personal session or in a consultation.
Scheduling an individual consultation for EQUUSOMA® credit:
- Please review the main Consulting landing page, which has a general overview about consultations, topics and areas of integration, and how to prepare for the consultation.
- Please contact Jennifer Matz at [email protected] to go over service forms and policies, payment options, and to select appointment times.
- Jennifer will set you up in Owl Practice, our practice management software, and will provide you with instructions on how to create a profile so that you can log in and access the appointment via Owl Video. Please ensure that you have set up your Owl account at least 3 business days before your appointment so that we can finish associating your profile in advance. We are unable to assist you with tech-related issues at the last moment.
- You will receive an email reminder 72 hours before the appointment, and a text message reminder 2 hours prior to the appointment (if you provide a cell phone number).
- At your appointment time, you will log into your Owl Practice account and click the button to join the video call. We recommend that you save your password for easy access and that you are set up in advance so that the call can unfold smoothly.
Rates: As of September 1, 2024, Sarah’s rate is $200 CAD/hr, plus tax for Canadian residents. A sliding scale may be available in cases of financial limitation, in particular due to economic disparities due to marginalization. We ask that consultees who request a sliding scale review the sliding scale categories described here and let us know where they land in terms of the scale. Consistent with SEI policy, EQUUSOMA® students (whether or not they are also SE™students) who have received a scholarship receive a rate of $140 CAD/hr of individual case consultation (approximately $100 USD, pending the exchange rate), plus tax for Canadian residents.
Cancellations: There is no penalty for cancelling your appointment with at least 48 hours’ notice. Students and team members will be billed the full rate of the consultation if cancelling within 48 hours from the appointment time or for missed appointments. Cancellation or missed appointment fees will be waived on compassionate grounds, such as in the event of sickness, a medical emergency requiring urgent treatment or intervention, or a death in the family. Cancellation or missed appointment fees will also be waived if we are able to reschedule your appointment within the same week.
Log sheets:
- Personal sessions, individual case consultations or assignment consultations: For ease of effort, students will document their hours on their log sheet (or via electronic methods used for this purpose) and submit these to Sarah for signature when they have completed the number of appointments they intend to have with Sarah, if they intend to book multiple appointments. This way, signatures can be provided all at once as opposed to multiple separate occasions.
- Timeframe: Due to the volume of emails received, it may take up to two (2) weeks for log sheets to be signed and sent back. If you have not gotten a response within this timeframe, please reach out to [email protected] in case your email was not received or there were any extenuating circumstances creating delays.
