Clinical Consultation

Professionals in various scopes of practice working with humans and/or equines as clients regularly consult with Sarah about complex cases and for support in their safe and effective use of self as service providers. These include but are not limited to:

  • Somatic Experiencing® Practitioners
  • EQUUSOMA® Practitioners
  • SE™ and EQUUSOMA® students who have completed the minimum required number of credit hours but who would like additional consultation support
  • Trauma therapists with training in other approaches
  • Other clinical professionals working with humans as clients
  • Other equine professionals working with equines and/or humans as clients

Since these clinical consultations do not count for credit hours in any training program, the focus can extend further beyond SE™ and/or EQUUSOMA® to other approaches or layers as necessary and appropriate. Aside from the list of topics outlined here, some additional topics of discussion for clinical consultation include:

  • Integrative and interdisciplinary trauma work
  • Other approaches and frameworks
  • Case conceptualization and treatment/service planning (for human and/or equine clients)
  • Career exploration and redirection
  • Transitioning to private practice
  • Professional development roadmapping
  • Program development
  • Curriculum development
  • Mentoring

The same case presentation steps and details outlined on the Consulting page still apply.

Supervision vs. consultation

Sarah does not currently provide formal clinical supervision to students or professionals for the purposes of obtaining a professional designation or completing registration/licensure requirements to practice independently. However, certain consultation services provided by Sarah may be similar to supervision in content and focus, but lack the required parameters of a formal, structured supervisory agreement that meets the requirements of professional bodies for these purposes. Professionals who consult with Sarah retain the legal liability of their own clients. Sarah and the Schlote Psychotherapy Professional Corporation and their agents and representatives shall not be held liable or responsible for any injury or damage from a consultee’s participation or involvement in any consultation offered by Sarah Schlote, or from any information provided during any consultation offered by Sarah Schlote.

Some professional bodies may accept consultation hours as “supervision”; please check with your professional body for clarification as to how they define supervision.

Jennifer will set you up in Owl Practice, our practice management software, and will provide you with instructions on how to create a profile so that you can log in and access the appointment via Owl Video. We ask that consultees who request a sliding scale review the sliding scale categories described here and let us know where they land in terms of the scale.

Cancellations: There is no penalty for cancelling your appointment with at least 48 hours’ notice. Consultees will be billed the full rate of the appointment if cancelling within 48 hours from the appointment time or for missed appointments. Cancellation or missed appointment fees will be waived on compassionate grounds, such as in the event of sickness, a medical emergency requiring urgent treatment or intervention, or a death in the family. Cancellation or missed appointment fees will also be waived if we are able to reschedule your appointment within the same week.
